![]() The quote below adds some additional information from the following web site I believe last time I checked there were a number of different spring set ups.Īlso, when you changing form an automatic to a 4 speed there are some very minor linkage issues, the repro kits list that they fit 68-69 only, apparently there is a missing hole or nut on the 67 frame that needs to be added (I have notes somewhere). Depending on what you have, the SB Camaro and Nova use different springs from the BB, and also from the 6 cylinder, and I believe the Firebird springs are different again as the Pontiac BB and OHC-6 are different animals. This will affect ride height and handling. One of the items you have to keep in mind when interchanging these sub frames is the springs from the donor sub frame. ![]() The original 67 frame has some issues, I also have a 69 Firebird sub frame that has been completely redone, but has some minor damage, and another donor sub frame from a 4 door low mileage granny driven 73 Nova. The front 70-74 side markers & bezels are different due to the slight curvature of the fenders.I'm doing a second restoration on my 67 Firebird ragtop, I've had the car for 25 years. Some other parts that interchange between 3rd & 4th gen would be hood hinges, door hinges (although the later 3rd gen and all 4th gen ones are welded on, making them difficult to swap), rocker panels, and the rear side marker lenses/bezels (70 - 79). Fuel & vent line routing is also slightly different with some years. The 73-74 gas tanks & sending units will also fit 4th gens but the filler necks & caps are different (leaded vs. In addition to the floor pans that 76 SS mentioned, the late 3rd gen (73-74) trunk floor pans are interchangeable with 4th gens (again, with some minor stamping diffs). The latch mechanisms are the same from 71 to 79 as well. And there are a few other door related parts (like outside handles) that will fit from 68-79. However, I believe the replacement outer door skins that are available for 68-72 2-doors could be used on a 4th gen 2-door or hatchback. The inside structure of the 4th gen doors is different (mostly due to the different inside door handles) and the 4th gen window frames are about an inch or so taller than 3rd gens. Also, the 69-72 bezels have a separate plastic cover that goes under the column.Īlthough the doors look very similar, they won't interchange. Just be aware that using a 69-72 instrument panel bezel in a 73+ car will require the use of the matching 69-72 steering column hanger bracket so the column hangs at the correct height to fit the notch in the lower part of the bezel. And since the metal dash structure remained relatively unchanged, 69-74 dash parts could be used in a 77-79 if a person is willing to change out everything (pad, bezel, wiring, etc) so everything matches. There are obvious styling differences between a 69-74 dash pad / instrument panel but they will still fit 75-76. although they don't cover everything.Īs 76 SS said, a lot of the dash components will interchange from 69 to 76. ![]() The interchange lists on my website at: probably come close. I can't say as I've ever seen a list like that either.
